Amelie Lens is an Electronic Music DJ and record producer out of Antwerp, Belgium who has earned a high rank in the genre through her bass heavy minimal techno live sets; mixture of classic acid and tribal house influences with a splash of more contemporary European techno sounds.

Amelie Lens, born May 31, 1990 in Antwerp, Belgium, having an already diverse interest in music, first became indulged by electronic music after attending the 2006 Dour Festival at the age of 15 where she had an alleged “life changing experience”. This resulted in her giving up her work in the fashion industry some time in 2014 to begin DJing under the name Renee and other aliases.

Her focus on bass heavy minimal techno eventually earned her a residency at the Labyrith Club in Hasselt, Belgium, where she would start currating her own nights under the name EXHALE, and began to gather a selection of the underground’s finest such as Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, Ellen Allien, Rødhåd and Kobosil with the vision of delivering uncomprimising future sounds of techno not only from “international heavyweights”, but also from up-and-coming artists and local DJs.

Since then she has become notorious for her mixture of classic acid and tribal house influences with a splash of more contemporary European techno sounds.

Exhale, as of 2019, has performed at some of the world’s most respected dance floors with showcases at London’s Fabric, Shelter Amsterdam, New York, Paris, Beirut, Instanbul as well as colossal stage hosting for Awakenings ADE, Creamfields UK, and Extrema Outdor Belgium to name a few. She quickly built a massive reputation that allowed her to tour all accross Europe, and North America.

Lyase, Second State & Lenske

Amelie Lens’ solid debut EP release would be on Italian imprint Lyase Recordings with her track Exhale before she was signed to the Pan-Pot imprint Second State records where she has released several singles and EP’s such as Contradiction EP in 2017; one of her most successful to date.

She has headlined club shows with the likes of Sonar, Time Warp, Awakenings, Movement Detroit and Legendary Circoloco at DC-10. She has featured on the coveted Mixmag cover, and also recorded her first podcast with Resident Advisor in 2018. Earlier in 2019, marking its 200th release, Drumcode Label, managed by Adam Beyer, asked Amelie Lens to remix their head’s 2014 release Touch Me.

Since then she has also launchd her own Record Label, LENSKE, where a handful of curated releases from artists like Farrago, Milo Spykers and Paris-based AIROD “fuse a high- velocity mix of uptempo 909 uppercuts, hyper-futuristic acid accents and evil-minded drops”.

The Toy Chest

Amelie Lens often plays her live sets using a Pioneer effects box that she uses to “add layers” the her mixes, which has a built-in sampler that can be essential and very fun when adding your own taste to a track. Accordingly, “minimalistic percussion locked grooves will work well with the device”. Ableton Live music sequencer and digital audio workstation along with the Elektron Analog Four Synth and sequencer is what she mostly uses when recording.
